Voting in Minnehaha County,
  Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Before voting for the first time, you must register to vote in Minnehaha County. This first time registration must be 15 days or more before the election. The SD Secretary of State interprets this to mean you must actually have been in the state and residing at the address given, even if only for one day.

To satisfy the 15 day requirement, you may present a receipt from a local campground showing at least a one night stay 15 days or more before the election. A mail forwarding address cannot be used for voter registration purposes.

After registering, you may vote in subsequent elections by Absentee Ballot, obtainable from the Minnehaha County Auditors Office and from the County website www.minnehahacounty.org. In their menu, at left, click on "Auditor-elections". Other voting information, such as suitable ID, is available on this website.

You must vote at least once every 4 years or you will become an "inactive" voter and will have to complete the registration process again.

Voter registration may be done in person at the Minnehaha County Auditor's Office, 415 N. Dakota Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD, 57104. (NE corner of 6th Street and Minnesota Avenue) Phone 1-605-367-4220, Sue Roust, Auditor.

We hope you have found this information helpful. Please contact the Auditor's Office for more specific details or if you have any other questions about voting.
